OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride

Why is OCBC Cycle a virtual ride this year?

In an effort to help contain the spread of Covid-19 and in accordance with the advisories and guidelines from the authorities, OCBC Cycle 2020 will no longer be a physical event. Instead, OCBC Cycle will be going virtual so you can still enjoy cycling while staying safe.

When is OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride happening?

The event period is from 1 November, 12:00am – 15 November, 11:59pm.

What are the various virtual ride categories available?

The virtual ride categories are:

  • The Sportive VR (16 years old and above)
  • The Straits Times VR (13 years old and above)
  • Mighty Savers® Kids VR (5 – 12 years old)
  • Mighty Savers® Kids VR (2 – 5 years old)
Is there still Corporate Chase / OCBC Cycle Speedway Championships category in the virtual ride?

There will no longer be a Corporate Chase / OCBC Cycle Speedway Championships category in the OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride.

Will my company still be eligible for the Longest Distance Award?

There will no longer be a Longest Distance Award in the OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride.

What event entitlements will I receive?

Upon verification of your submission, you will receive an e-Certificate within 7 days and an event medal and tote bag by 7 December.

Will event apparel be given for the virtual ride?

You will be entitled to the event apparel if you have opted-in for the virtual ride and have previously registered for the physical event under these categories:

  • “Go Red”
  • Mighty Savers® Kids & Family Ride

The size of the event apparel given will be based on the size last chosen during your registration for the 9 and 10 May 2020 event. No exchange of sizes is allowed.

If you have previously registered for the physical event under the “Go Freestyle” category or Corporate Bike Ride category, you will not receive an event apparel.

Public registrations between 15 August – 18 September will also not be entitled to the event apparel.

When will I receive my event entitlements?

If you have for OCBC Cycle 2020 as a “Go Red” or Mighty Savers® Kids & Family Ride participant and have opted-in for the OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride between 13 July – 14 August, you will be entitled to the event apparel. You will receive your event apparel by 14 September.

e-Certificates will be available for download within 7 days of submission of proof of ride. All e-Certificates will need to be downloaded by 7 December.

You will receive the event medal and tote bag by 7 December.

I previously registered under the “Go Red” categories / Mighty Savers® Kids & Family Ride category but I did not receive my event apparel after 14 September. What should I do?

Do I get to win a prize if I finish first in my category?

OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride is a non-competitive event. Hence, there will be no prizes given.

Can I join OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride as an overseas participant?

OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride is only open to residents of Singapore. All registration fees for overseas participants will be fully refunded by 14 September.


Refunds

Will there be a refund for my existing registration?

Yes, all registration fees will be fully refunded by 14 September. Alternatively, you can also choose to have your registration fee donated to Care Corner Singapore Pte Ltd between 13 July – 14 August. Click here to donate.

No action is required if you do not wish to donate your registration fee and if you will not be participating in OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride. You will receive your refund by 14 September. Click here if you would like to choose to receive your refund earlier.

I previously registered for OCBC Cycle 2020 as part of a group. How do I receive my refund?

All group registration fees will be refunded to the registered point of contact of your group.

Will there be a refund for my existing registration if I am an overseas participant?

Yes, all registration fees will be fully refunded by 14 September. Click here if you would like to choose to receive your refund earlier. There will not be an option to donate your registration fee for overseas participants.

How do I donate my registration fee?

Only participants who have registered for OCBC Cycle 2020 may choose to donate their registration fee.

Click here between 13 July – 14 August to donate your registration fee to Care Corner Singapore Pte Ltd.

Why do I not see an option to donate my registration fee?

If you have already requested for a refund previously / were not required to pay for your registration fee, you will not have the option to donate your registration fee. Members of group registration will not have the option to donate as it is available only to the point of contact for the group.

Overseas participants will also not have the option to donate as it is available only to residents of Singapore.

I do not want to donate my registration fee and also do not want to take part in OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride. What do I do?

You will not be required to do anything if you do not want to donate your registration fee and if you will not be participating in OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride. You will receive your refund by 14 September. Click here if you would like to choose to receive your refund earlier.

Will I still be able to register for OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride if I have requested for my refund previously?

Yes, you may opt-in to join the virtual ride here between 13 July – 14 August.

When will I receive my refund after I submit my request?

You will receive your refund by 14 September.

I did not receive my refund on 14 September. What should I do?

All refunds will be completed by 14 September. Should you still not receive the refund by this date, please email us at enquiry@ocbccycle.com and provide your:

  • Name used to register for the event
  • Contact number

We will reply within three (3) working days.

How will I receive my refund if I paid for my registration fee previously using OCBC Pay Anyone™?

We will contact you to get your details separately.

How will I receive my refund if I paid for my registration fee previously using a Credit / Debit Card?

The refunds will be made to the Credit / Debit Card you used during registration.

I reserved a Lazer helmet previously. Can I still purchase it?

All registration fees and merchandise payments will be fully refunded. You may contact Lazer directly if you wish to purchase a Lazer helmet.


Registration

When does registration for OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride start and end?

Registration for OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride will open in these stages:

  • 13 July – 14 August:
    1. Refund and registration for participants who have previously registered for OCBC Cycle 2020.
    2. Code registration for group participants who have previously registered for OCBC Cycle 2020 (e.g. Corporate, Go 5 / 10 or more, OCBC Cycle Speedway Championships). All unused codes will expire on 15 August.
  • 15 August – 18 September:
    1. Public registration

Please note that registration for the virtual ride is only open to residents of Singapore.

What is the registration fee for OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride?

OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride is free for all to participate.

How do I register?

If you have previously registered for OCBC Cycle 2020, you can opt-in to join the virtual ride here between 13 July – 14 August.

Public registration will start on 15 August and end on 18 September or when all slots are taken up. Click here for public registration.

Will there be any insurance coverage?

There is no insurance coverage provided for OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride. You are encouraged to purchase an insurance for your virtual ride.

How do I register if I am under the age of 21?

If you are under the age of 21, you will need your parent’s or guardian’s consent. Complete the indemnity section found on the online registration form.

Can I register for more than 1 kid in the Mighty Savers® Kids VR?

Yes, you may register up to 4 kids within the same age category of the Mighty Savers® Kids VR when you are completing the registration form between 15 August – 18 September.

I have kids that belong in different age categories of the Mighty Savers® Kids VR. Can I use my details to register for all my kids in the two different virtual age categories?

As the Mighty Savers® Kids VR (5 – 12 years old) is a different age category from the Mighty Savers® Kids VR (2 – 5 years old), a different parent / guardian’s details will be required to register for your kids.

How do I register for the virtual ride if I registered previously for OCBC Cycle 2020 under Go 5 or more / Go 10 or more / corporate categories / OCBC Cycle Speedway Championship?

All registered point of contacts (POC) for group registrations from the previous physical event will be able to register the group for the virtual ride between 13 July – 14 August.

For point of contacts:
An email with instructions will be sent to you before 13 July for you to choose if you want to donate your group’s registration fee or receive a full refund. You will also need to let us know if you want to opt-in for OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride.

Once you have indicated that your group is joining OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride, new codes will be issued to you for distribution to the individuals in your group to register for the virtual ride here between 13 July – 14 August. Codes that are not used after 14 August will be deemed as forfeited. All group individuals are to reach out to their POCs directly if they have any queries.

No action is required if you do not wish to donate your registration fee and if your group will not be participating in the virtual ride.

Note: All OCBC Cycle Speedway Championship and OCBC Cycle Corporate Chase participants will automatically be entered in The Sportive VR category when they opt-in for the OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride.

How do I know if my registration is confirmed?

You will receive a confirmation email sent to the email address provided during the registration process.

I did not receive the confirmation email. What should I do?

You may not have received the confirmation email for one of the following reasons:

  • You provided an erroneous email address when registering.
  • The email might have been treated as a spam email and diverted to your junk box.

If you still did not receive the confirmation email, please email us at enquiry@ocbccycle.com and provide your:

  • Name used to register for the event
  • Contact number

We will reply within three (3) working days.

Can I take part in more than 1 category?

You will not be able to take part in more than 1 virtual ride category.

For participants that previously registered for OCBC Cycle 2020, your ride category for OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride will be the same as the ride category registered for previously (e.g.: The Sportive Ride participants will be entered into The Sportive VR).

Note: All OCBC Cycle Speedway Championship and OCBC Cycle Corporate Chase participants will automatically be entered in The Sportive VR category when they opt-in for the OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride.

Can I change categories after I have completed my registration?

You will not be able to switch to another virtual ride category after completing your registration.

I previously registered for OCBC Cycle 2020 but I missed the period to opt-in to join OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride. Can I still register?

No, you will need to register as a public participant instead. You will not be entitled to your event apparel if you were previously a “Go Red” or Mighty Savers® Kids & Family Ride participant.


Submission

How does the virtual ride work?

From 1 November to 15 November, you can choose to ride outdoors or indoors, to complete the distance of your chosen category.

You have to use a fitness tracker – for e.g. Garmin Edge, Garmin Fenix, Garmin Instinct, etc – or any suitable fitness tracking application on your smart devices to record your ride details.

You do not need to complete the full distance in one ride. The full distance can be divided into a maximum of four separate rides between 1 – 15 November.

Log in to the user portal and submit the required information online anytime between 1 November 12:00pm – 15 November, 11:59pm. When the cycling activity is verified, you will receive an event medal and tote bag, by 7 December. Submission of your entries can only be done once.

What information am I required to submit for the virtual ride?

An email with access details to your user portal will be sent to you at least one week before the event. Through the portal, you are required to submit the following information as proof of ride in order to be eligible for the event entitlements:

  1. A photo of yourself with your bike before the ride. Feel free to be in the photo with your kid for the Mighty Savers® Kids VR!
  2. A photo of your ride details showing the date, distance and duration of your ride. If your tracker does not show the date and time, you can include another device showing the date and time in the same photo. You can accumulate up to 4 rides in a single submission.
  3. A photo of yourself with your bike after the ride.

Note: You can accumulate the required distance of the respective category in up to 4 rides, as long as the rides are completed within the event period. You can access the user portal to submit their ride details between 1 November, 12:00pm and 15 November, 11:59pm. Submission can only be done once. If you are accumulating the distance through multiple rides, please ensure you have all the different images on hand before submitting your proof of ride.

I have multiple kids taking part in the Mighty Savers® Kids VR (2 – 5 years old) and/or Mighty Savers® Kids VR (5 – 12 years old). How do I submit the proof of ride?

Parents with kids taking part in both Mighty Savers® Kids VR (2 – 5 years old) and Mighty Savers® Kids VR (5 – 12 years old)
You are required to submit two separate sets of proof of ride as required by each age category.

Parents with kids taking part within the same age category of Mighty Savers® Kids VR
If you have multiple kids taking part within the same age category of Mighty Savers® Kids VR, you are only required to submit 1 set of proof of ride for all your kids.

Feel free to be in the photo with your kid for the Mighty Savers® Kids VR!

What fitness tracking applications/devices can I use?

Any mobile apps or devices that are capable of tracking the date, distance and duration of ride can be used.

Some examples of devices or applications that can be used include Garmin bicycle computers (for e.g. Edge, Fenix, Forerunner), CycleMeter, Endomondo, MapMyRide, Strava, or native health apps in your mobile devices.

My application/device does not show the date of ride. What do I do?

If your tracker does not show the date and time, you can include another device showing the date and time in the same photo.

Do I need a helmet to participate in the virtual ride?

Riding with a helmet, especially when outdoors, is strongly encouraged. For outdoor cycling, please ensure that you abide by traffic regulations and adopt a safe cycling behaviour. Click here for a list of tips for a safer ride.

Are there any specific routes that I have to follow?

There is no specified route for OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride. However, you can refer to the list below that can help to get you started on your ride:

  1. Routes along Park Connectors (PCNs)
  2. Routes to gardens, parks and nature reserves

OCBC Cycle Speedway Corporate Championship

What is this category about?

Under the OCBC Cycle Speedway Championship category, the OCBC Cycle Speedway Corporate Championship is a competitive ride where teams ride 10 laps on a 1 km course along Stadium Drive. The first pair of each team must complete 5 laps before the next pair of cyclists takes off to ride the remaining 5 laps.

When is the registration for OCBC Cycle Speedway Corporate Championship?

Registration is from 8 January 2020 to 17 April 2020.

Who can take part in OCBC Cycle Speedway Corporate Championship?

Anyone can take part so long as you are employed by the company that you are representing. However, riders are only allowed to represent one team across all OCBC Cycle Speedway Championship categories.

Can I take part in OCBC Cycle Speedway Club Championship, OCBC Cycle Speedway Corporate Championship and OCBC Cycle Speedway Women’s Championship?

You can only choose to take part in one category.

How many teams can my company register?

Each company can only register a maximum of one team. Any subsequent teams will be placed on a waiting list.

How many riders do I have to register for each team?

Each team will have to register five riders for the race. However, only four riders are required to race in each round.

Can the team have a mix of both female and male riders?

Only OCBC Cycle Speedway Club and Corporate Championship teams can consist of female and male cyclists.

For OCBC Cycle Speedway Women’s Championship, only female riders are allowed.

After registering all members in my team, can I change one of my members in my team on a later date?

No. Race registrations are strictly non-transferable.

If I am unable to race during any of the days, can I get my colleague to race on my behalf?

All cyclists must be pre-registered and no replacement is allowed. Failure to comply will result in an immediate disqualification of the team.

If I am eliminated, can I ride on behalf of my other colleagues?

In the event of elimination, cyclists are not allowed to ride on behalf of another team from the same company.

What are the prizes?
  • Champion – S$400 and Champions’ jersey
  • First Runner-Up – S$300
  • Second Runner-Up – S$200

The top 4 teams get to ride exclusively in the Champions Wave of The Sportive Ride on 10 May 2020 with the national riders who competed in the OCBC Cycle Speedway S.E.A. Championship and the local riders who competed in the OCBC Cycle Speedway Club Championship and in the OCBC Cycle Speedway Women’s Championship.

How do I pay for the race?

You can pay using a VISA or MasterCard credit/debit card (OCBC card members will receive 10% off the registration fees).

Are there any other payment modes?

Garmin e-Challenge

What is this activity about?

You can experience a taste of E-sports by taking part in Garmin e-Challenge, where you have five (5) minutes to go on an all-out sprint, using the trainer to clock the maximum distance on a virtual section of The Sportive Ride’s route. Compete to see how you fare against the rest on the leaderboard!

How do I register for Garmin e-Challenge?

You may register here. Registration closes on 24 April 2020 or when all slots are taken up.

Who can take part in Garmin e-Challenge?

Anyone can take part! Minimum age for this category is 13 years of age as of event year.

There will be two challenges for this activity:

  • Speedway Riders Challenge – only applicable for OCBC Cycle Speedway Championships (Club, Corporate or Women) participants
  • Public Challenge – applicable for public or participants from other ride categories
Where is this activity held at?

Garmin e-Challenge will be held at OCBC Arena Hall 1, Singapore Sports Hub.

When is this activity held?

This e-Challenge will take place on Friday (8 May 2020) and Saturday (9 May 2020).

What are the time slots available?

There are a total of 36 time slots over 8 May and 9 May 2020.

8th May 2020: 11:00am – 7:30pm (18 time slots)
9th May 2020: 11:30am – 7:30pm (18 time slots)

Each time slot can accommodate up to 12 participants.

What is the activity format?

Garmin e-Challenge is an individual challenge where cyclists compete on a selected virtual section of The Sportive Ride’s route.

Each participant will be allocated five (5) minutes to clock their longest distance on the trainer with bicycles provided by OCBC Cycle’s organising team.

At the end of five (5) minutes, participants will be ranked based on their distance.

In the event of a tie, participants will be ranked by the following criteria, in order of importance:

  1. Highest average speed
  2. Highest maximum speed

Please note that a weigh-in will be conducted before the commencement of the challenge.

What is the duration for each time slot?

Each participant will be allocated five (5) minutes to clock their longest distance.

Participants are required to sign-in at the registration area inside OCBC Arena Hall 1, 15 minutes before their registered time slot.

Do I need a helmet for this category?

You do not require a helmet for this category. However, proper footwear will still be required.

What are the prizes?

Public Challenge (each day):

  • 1st – 3rd: Garmin Forerunner 45 running watch (worth $299) each

Speedway Riders Challenge (across both days):

  • 1st: Garmin Vector 3 pedal-based power meter (worth $1,499)
  • 2nd: Garmin Edge 1030 Bike Computer Trainer (worth $899)
